Sink or Swim Bitches

So I started a 30 day "Paleo Diet Challenge" with the lovely people at Cross Fit gym in Frasier (www.crossfitinspire.com).  This challenge is a little bit different for me since I am working diligently on cutting out meat, but is allowing me to clean up my raw act by focusing more on fruits and veggies and less on all of grain based raw foods and agave sweetened raw food.

While cleaning up yesterday's kid mess off the living room floor, Nate found my Paleo packet info.  He didn't leaf through, but he did grunt something in a manly way when he picked it up.  Nate has horrible eczema and I have wanted him to try to go wheat/dairy/soy/sugar free for a long time to find out if he would see improvement.   Nate is a relatively healthy guy, but like all people who breathe, he loves pizza, hoagies, and other yummy fare.  So I posed the challenge to Nate in a very non-invasive psych major way (Grad school is finally paying off!!!).  He agreed to go Paleo for 30 days- fruits, veggies, nuts, seeds, meats, and eggs.  I am so excited to see how things go for him!!!

As a selfish, health-conscious spouse, I can't even explain to you how stoked I am to have what little wheat and dairy we have left to phase out of my loved ones bodies and out of my home.  I love my family so much that I die just a little when I see Nate and the girls food that isn't up to my psychotic standards.

So, here's tonight's dinner menu:
For Nate and the Girls
Organic, grass feed Chuck Steak
2 onions
Organic Beef broth
1/2 tsp Himalayan garlic salt
(in the crock pot for 3-4 hours on high, almost like french onion soup without the cheese and huge ass cruton)

Spinach salads with olive oil, avocado, and a pinch of Himalayan Sea Salt

For me:
A "beefed" up version of the above salad
Spinach salad with peppers, avocado, onion, and cherry tomato. Mmmmmm...

So here we go.  I am hoping that divorce papers are not in my future and I am going to try to post what we eat to give you guys some ideas of what this lifestyle looks like for a busy family of four.

  2. I totally wanted to mention that I heard agave was found to be a tad like corn syrup. A no go health wise. We will be cutting it out. I think Jason (and Bella) would do well on the Paleo Diet too. He has started working out at the y once a week, but wants to go more, so we'll see. We know of some folks who eat that diet in Media who are members of a local grass fed meat farm share.
